WHO WE ARE
Grow is a small company that seeks to embody the traits kids seem to come by naturally: simplicity, honesty, openness, silliness and a sense of humor.
We make and sell thoughtfully designed, whimsical products for kids and the people who love them. Our organic line of 100% cotton playwear is roomy and comfortable, and garment-dyed in soft, natural colors.
We have expanded our clothing line into other products featuring our own unique hand-drawn illustrations, including personalized wall art, placemats and pillowcases. We’ve also started designing and producing our own textiles on environmentally sustainable fabrics, and are converting all our clothing to organic and/or sustainable fabrics.
OUR HISTORY
Grow was founded by Verity Freebern, a graphic designer and illustrator, and Rebecca Labowitz, a market researcher.
We began with a small order of clothes that our friend Jim silkscreened with about 20 different designs. We sold that first order at art fairs in the Denver and Chicago areas throughout the summer of 1998. We launched www.growgrowgrow.com in October 2000 and sold our clothing exclusively online until fall 2006, when we opened a retail store in Denver. We have our warehouse and offices in the store space, which is a very pleasant little place to work.
Along the way we formed a partnership with a Denver-based manufacturer of baby products, Basic Comfort, and have developed a number of products together. We also designed and are now selling a unique breastfeeding support pillow called the Honeysuckle pillow.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We decided to start Grow because we had trouble finding comfortable, affordable, unique kids’ clothes and comfortable baby clothes in interesting colors, with simple designs, that weren’t incredibly gender-stereotyped. So, from the outset, we decided to create a line with colors and designs that would appeal to boys and girls alike.
We also wanted to enjoy our work, and, ideally, to create something that other people would enjoy, too. And we wanted to make products that are good for people and places.
We are committed to only working with vendors who treat their employees well, and have fair and decent working conditions. We’re also trying to move in the direction of sustainable goods.
